SHA welcomes new assistant property manager

The Springfield Housing Authority has hired a new assistant property manager to help oversee three of the largest family public housing developments in the city.

Lisa Walker, who has an impressive career in property management, began working this month as Assistant Property Manager in District B. That district that includes nearly 550 apartments at Reed Village, Robinson Gardens, Duggan Park and group residences for elderly tenants.

Walker, of Holyoke, brings a career’s worth of experience in housing management, though this is her first job working in public housing. And she is very excited about that.

“I’ve always heard wonderful things about the Springfield Housing Authority so I’m very happy to now be working here,” she said. “I already love it. I’m learning a lot and meeting a lot of new people.”

Walker was most recently property manager at Chicopee Village, a privately owned affordable housing complex in Chicopee.

She worked for many years for the Appleton Corp. in Holyoke, a real estate company with an impressive portfolio of rental properties across the region. There, Walker worked a variety of jobs, starting out as a part-time receptionist and rising to the level of property manager, marketing outreach and reasonable accommodation coordinator for elderly residents.

Her education in housing management harkens back to her childhood, when she occasionally accompanied her mother to work in her property management and real estate career. She said working with affordable housing agencies feels like a natural fit, thanks to that early start.

“I pretty much learned about the business of affordable housing throughout my life,” Walker said. “I feel like this is what I’ve always done.”

In her new job at SHA, she works directly with District B  Property Manager Daniel Bresnahan, who said she has hit the ground running in her first few weeks in the busy office at Reed Village.

“She’s great, very enthusiastic and always ready to work,” Bresnahan said. “Everyone likes her.”

Walker oversees clerks, handles issues with residents and meets other challenges and requirements in the district.
