Our Residents

The application deadline for the 2020 Allan R. Andrews Scholarship has been extended to May 8, in light of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) related shutting down of school systems across the region.

The scholarship is offered by
the New England Council of the National Association of Housing and
Redevelopment Officials.

It is offered to graduating  high school seniors or GED holders who are
either public housing residents or Section 8 voucher recipients and who are
applying to or attending an accredited institution of higher education pursuing
an associate, bachelor or graduate degree.

Awards are given in $1,000
increments at a minimum, with the total number awarded varying each year.

The scholarship was established
in 1993 in memory of Allan R. Andrews, who was the dedicated, creative, and
effective administrator of the Springfield, Massachusetts, Redevelopment
Authority. 

Andrews served with the New England
Redevelopment Commission for more than 30 years, including as president, member
of the regional Executive Board and national NAHRO Board of Governors. 

The NERC Scholarship Committee
accepts and reviews applications, and the winner or winners are notified in
late May. 

At a special luncheon during
NERC/NAHRO’s Annual Conference in June, a formal presentation is made and the
winners are invited to say a few words of acceptance. 

The Scholarship Committee
awards scholarship money directly to the winning applicants once proof of
registration at the college or university is received. 

The Committee will determine the number and amounts of the scholarships; no scholarship will be less than $1,000. Please read the rules and application very carefully.
